Stray Aid is a registered charity, Charity No. 1117372, based in Coxhoe, Durham. Our aim is to provide practical help and information on stray, lost or abandoned dogs and cats across County Durham.
If you have lost or found an animal then check the "Advice" section for helpful information and useful telephone numbers.
If you are looking for your dog and you think it may have been collected by a dog warden, please check to see if its photograph appears in the "Strays" section.
The Rehoming Centre is open 10am - 4pm seven days a week.* The dogs are not available for viewing after 4pm in summer or dusk in winter, whichever is earlier. If you are visiting in the hope of finding a new pet please help us out by printing out and filling in this form.
Stray Aid Kennels, Coxhoe, are open between 9am and 5pm, seven days a week.*
Stray Aid Kennels, Coxhoe, are closed to the public between 5pm and 9am. Please note, our security team will not take in dogs from the public, return dogs from our council dog pound, or rehome dogs during these hours.

If you wish to rehome a dog then click on "Rehoming" for pictures of the dogs currently available.
The charity looks for a donation for its dogs and cats. A suggested minimum amount is given with each animal's details but you are welcome to give more if you wish. We accept donations in cash but regret that, due to charges imposed by banks, we are unable to accept credit or debit cards at this time.
CAN YOU HELP???
Stray Aid's tombolas are proving so popular that we are running out of prizes! Tombolas are an important source of income for the charity but we urgently need donations of soft toys and toiletries.
Blanket Appeal
We always need blankets and towels and would greatly appreciate any that you could donate to our rescue kennels.
Our dogs like nothing more than to curl up on their comfortable towels and blankets as they snuggle down for the night.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept quilted items like duvets and sleeping bags, or pillows.
STRAY AID TO OPEN VULNERABLE DOG SPECIAL CARE UNIT.

In the last 12 months, Stray Aid has seen an increase in the number of vulnerable dogs arriving at the charity's rescue centre in need of special care. These could be unvaccinated puppies, elderly dogs, or dogs with serious health problems.
When a vulnerable dog needs to be isolated from our main kennel population, it will be taken to and isolated in the special care kennels where it will receive extra care from our veterinary surgeon and specially trained animal welfare volunteers. These kennels have warm vinyl floors, individual infra-red heat lamps for the dogs to bask under, easy-clean surfaces, and their own wash-down and kitchen area where special diets can be easily prepared to meet individual needs.
Unfortunately in recent months we have seen an increase in dogs brought to the rescue centre with infectious diseases such as campylobacter, salmonella, isospora and even canine parvovirus (parvo is extremely contagious and is often fatal to unvaccinated dogs)
