CAN YOU HELP?? Winter is upon us, and we urgently need WARM BEDDING for our dogs - old blankets, quilts, sheets, towels, anything that dogs can snuggle up in! We are also looking for donations of money to help towards the running costs of our heaters. Every one of our 3kw heaters costs about 30p to run for 1 hour - CAN YOU HELP? Donations of bedding or cash can be taken to either our kennels at Coxhoe or Northern Stray-care vets at 21 High Street South, Langley Moor. Also cash donations can be made via paypal on the "Donations" section of the home page (Stray Aid is a registered charity no. 1117372) Or could you give a rescue dog a good home? Nimble Fingers have come up trumps again! They have raised an incredible £1,021.50 for our dogs. Thanks to their hard work, we have been able to get, amongst other things, warm dog bedding for our strays and some special puppy food for the 11 puppies under 4 weeks old that have been abandoned in this bitterly cold weather. Keep up the good work ladies, and THANK YOU! OMM Update Keith and his partner, who reached their first official stop safely, came 56th out of the many hundreds of pairs in his group. A very interesting article regarding the OMM can be found on www.independent.co.uk/sport. Then Others, look back to 28th October. It gives the viewpoint of the competitors, makes fascinating reading! The Butchers Great North Dog Walk has raised £250 for Stray-aid. This is a tremendous achievement, thanks to everyone who supported our Stray-aid dogs. More dogs than ever are being turned out onto the streets, we need every penny to look after them until new homes can be found.
Stray-aid, Registered Charity no. 1117372, would like to say a special thank-you to all the boys and girls of BROWNEY SCHOOL for their sponsored dog walk on Sunday 6th July. They raised a staggering £375.26 for our stray dogs. Daniel Eldridge took one of our Stray-aid dogs, Nelson, who behaved beautifully, was great with the other dogs and children, and is still looking for a home. THANKS AGAIN! and also to all the teachers, staff and parents who helped the walk to go with a swing, and Alison Agar and John Eldridge for organising the event. UPDATE - NELSON HAS FOUND A LOVELY NEW HOME!
Friday 26th September - COUNTRY & WESTERN EVENING/Line Dancing at Crow Tree Working Men's Club. This event raised just over £350. Stray-aid is very grateful to everyone who came along to support Stray-aid, and a very special thank-you to Shirley Dargue who organised the event.

Stray-aid Open Day A THOUSAND THANK-YOUS to all the true animal lovers who came to our Open Day on Sunday 18th May and helped us raise over £1,000!! Everyone had a fantastic time. Thanks also to all the Stray-aid volunteers who gave up their precious time to make the day such a success. A grand total of £1,037.98 was raised, every penny of which will go towards the care and welfare of our precious dogs. With costs rising all the time, and so many dogs in desperate need, it is vital that we raise as much money as possible in order to keep looking after our dogs. So thanks again folks.
Sat 9th & Sun 10th Feb, collection at Pets at Home. Pets at Home kindly allowed our volunteers to collect much needed funds again. Please think of the strays. Or even better, if you are thinking of getting a new dog, why not pop through to East Pasture Farm, Coxhoe 12-2 any day and meet them! I am delighted to announce that we raised £361.51 for our dogs! Looking on is Louise Houghton with Archer, a delightful Rhodesian Ridgeback X Dobermann who is looking for a good home. Nimble fingers raised much-needed funds for our dogs by selling plants and handicrafts at village fetes etc. This money will be used to help feed and care for our dogs. We cannot thank Nimble Fingers enough for their kindness. Sat 1st Dec at Pittington Village Hall, 9am-1.30pm. Stray-aid Fundraising Fair. Hot and cold refreshments, tombola, stalls and a whole lot more. Sat 15th Dec at Coxhoe Village Hall. Coxhoe Church Christmas Fayre kindly allow Stray-aid to put up a stall - bric-a-brac, tombola etc. Thurs 20th & Fri 21st Dec at Pets at Home, Arnison Centre, Durham. Pets at Home are regularly involved in supporting strays, and we are very grateful for their support. If you're buying gifts for your pet this Christmas, please spare a thought for the strays. This event raised £204.66 for Stray-aid 21st Sept 2007 - County& Western Night Thanks to those who came along to our Country & Western evening. Everyone had a great time, and a terrific £650 was raised for Stray-aid. A special thank-you to one of our valued supporters for donating £100 towards the cost of the band. September 2007 Doreen from Paws a While Doggy Day Creche in Chilton has come up trumps again, raising £505 for Stray-aid with her fun dog show in September. May 2007 Blue Acres Open Day will be on Sunday 20th May starting at 12 noon. There will be a fun dog show, open to everyone, for the dog with the waggiest tail, best dressed dog, best junior, adult and senior dogs etc. There will also be a separate class for Stray-aid Rescue dogs only. Minimum entry fee per class is £1 plus one tin or bag of dog food - remember, this important event aims to raise funds for those less fortunate dogs who have not found a home - yet! There will be other activities such as tombola, raffle, face painting, cake stall etc. FREE MICROCHIPPING for dogs will be available, kindly provided by Dogs Trust and Derwentside Council. We look forward to seeing you and your dogs on the day. June 2007 The long-awaited answer to the question: How many pennies will it take to fill a gallon bottle? is 6,962 pennies (£69.62). The nearest guess, of 7,000 pennies, was made by Ross Bennett - well done Ross. He wins the prize of a large toy Winnie the Pooh. Many thanks to everyone who donated pennies, and to those who guessed the number. A special thank you to the staff at Sommerfield supermarket in Langley Moor, who counted them for us! Monday 7th May 2007 Paws A While Doggy Daycare Crèche will be holding a dog show. There will be fun dog show, stalls, heelwork to music display. Show opens at 11.00am judging will take place at 12.30. "Jacqui's Easter Monday fundraiser made over £150. All proceeds went to help our Stray-aid dogs. Nice one Jacqui!" "The pamper week-end at K9 Hydro raised an incredible £700 to help towards much needed building alterations at Stray-aid. Many thanks to everyone who gave up their precious time for this very worthwhile cause Wednesday 14 Feb. from 8pm at Sinatras, Holmside, Sunderland. Valentines Day fundraising evening - "Puppy Love", all money raised in aid of Stray-aid. Top North-Est acts every half hour, raffles drawn every hour. hosted by Lady Tammy Tank. No entry fee, a night of fun Guaranteed! Stray-Aid would like to say a big "THANKYOU" to Katy Burgin, who competed in an event called "Tough Guy" this summer(www.toughguy.co.uk) and raised an amazing £200 for Stray-Aid. Well done Katy!
